After Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins) scored the overtime goal for Team Canada giving them the 3-2 win against the United States at the Vancouver Olympics on February 28th, the stick and glove he used was supposed to be sent to him. Instead they were lost in the shuffle.
Reebok put up a $10,000 reward for Crosby’s stick. The stick was found in Toronto in a shipment heading to the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in St. Petersburg, Russia. The stick was mistaken for another stick that was not the game stick that Crosby used. The IIHF showed some photographs of the stick to Crosby to confirm that it was the one he used.
Crosby’s missing glove was found by Team Canada player Patrice Bergeron (Boston Bruins). Crosby and Bergeron sat next to each other in the dressing room, and Crosby’s glove was accidenally placed in Bergeron’s equipment bag.
Yay, he got his gear back!! Those kinds of things are very important to players.
Crosby also announced that he will be donating his $20,000 Olympic medal bonus to his foundation, which provides financial help to local charities in Nova Scotia. Shit, twenty grand is nothing to Crosby, he won’t even miss it. Nice gesture though.
